Stunts

Unauthorized Modifications

When not in a combat situation, if Alférez successfully creates an advantage relating to mobile suits, that advantage gets an extra free invoke.

Tunnel Vision

If Alférez has taken damage from the enemy or his allies are outnumbered, he can add the value of his Adrenaline Rush skill to any single Pilot skill. Once this stunt activates, the selected Pilot skill cannot be changed until the end of combat.

High-Speed Air Support

When in combat, if Alférez makes a successful ranged attack against an enemy engaged with an ally, he can create a boost or make himself immune to damage from that enemy until the end of the round.

Appearance

Tall and slim, bordering on lanky, with olive skin that tans easily. A face that’s easy to read; he has a hard time concealing his emotions. Green, darting eyes and hair that fades under sunlight from light brown to dirty blonde. His hair is close-cropped around the ears and in the back, but longer on top, and easily fringes over his eyes if not cut. Wears a blue earring in one ear that command has been unable to dislodge. He has a few different outfits.

  1. Civilian attire. Tends toward clothes that are low-maintenance and offer a degree of protection. Long-sleeve shirts, usually partially unbuttoned, and denim pants are common.
  2. Zeon NCO Uniform. Type 2 combat dress. Straight-cut trousers worn over boots, not riding-type trousers. Overshirt with pockets and unbuttoned high collar. Armband.
  3. Normal suit for mobile suit operation. Standard design in navy blue, with a white helmet and fittings. Wears a patch on the shoulder.

He carries a large crescent wrench as a melee weapon, alongside a standard-issue Astra 4000 pistol.

Personnel Profile

As extracted from the Principality of Zeon’s military intelligence records.

Chief Petty Officer Alférez is a skilled mechanic who, in his civilian life, recreationally modified automobiles for aesthetic and performance-related reasons. As mobile worker technology developed, Alférez became interested in their potential for customization, which led to his illegal acquisition of military technology intended for the mobile suit program. In light of Alférez’s exceptional skills with machinery and demonstrated above-average reflexes (the subject led police on a multi-kilometer car chase in his attempt to escape to the spaceport, in the course of which he caused no injuries and did not damage his vehicle), he was offered conscription into the mobile suit corps as an alternative to a trial, which could have resulted in imprisonment or execution.

The subject shows little respect for the niceties of military protocol and discipline, frequently adhering to the letter rather than the spirit or simply flouting regulations altogether. He seems to view his enlistment in the mobile suit corps not as a punishment or a conditional deferment thereof, but rather as a privilege that his previous criminal behavior earned for him. Despite this insolent attitude, Alférez has demonstrated both a willingness to cooperate with his unit and a positive attitude toward the Principality of Zeon and its goals.

In interviews, Alférez has specifically shown a strong sympathy for spacenoid independence from the Earth Federation, motivated by a view that the colonies are treated as “mining outposts” by Earth, and their inhabitants as second-class citizens. Records indicate that he and his family were forcibly migrated to Side 3 by the Public Corporation of Space Transport in early 0058 UC, shortly before the Republic was established. As such, and because elements of his mother’s family (the Peraltas) remain Earthside, the possibility exists that hardliners would regard him as less than truly spacenoid. The subject has demonstrated less enthusiasm or comprehension regarding the finer points of Contolism; his loyalty appears, to a certain degree, self-interested.

Despite the subject’s conduct issues and potentially divided loyalties, he has proven to be an asset to the mobile suit program, and bears the hallmarks of a pilot with excellent combat potential. Recommend a close watch and firm measures to guide him toward greater cooperation with military protocol. Ideological instruction to develop a deeper comprehension of the Principality’s aims is not necessary.

Pilot Custom “Flecha”

Description

As extracted from the Principality of Zeon’s military intelligence records.

The subject operates a customized Zaku-type mobile suit, which he affectionately terms the “Flecha.” While it bears some customizations to its appearance and functionality, the “Flecha” remains in principle a mass-production Zaku II, thanks to oversight from higher-ranking engineers within Alférez’s unit and the reluctance of his commanding officer to sign off on more extensive modifications that could lead to catastrophic failure in a combat situation. Two primary modifications are known.

The first is a paint scheme in azure and white, which the pilot presented as an experimental camouflage designed to reduce visibility in aerial combat on Earth. While the colorscheme was approved as being minimally disruptive and likely to improve compliance, it is worth noting that one of his personal vehicles bears a similar colorscheme, including a “racing stripe” identical to the one on the Flecha’s shield. Its actual benefit as camouflage remains to be seen.

The other modification is more speculative, as it was not submitted as a proposal by CPO Alférez nor was it approved by his superiors. However, after trials in which the subject’s Zaku II was pitted against Lt. Palen Fontana’s EMS-04 Zudah, CPO Alférez spent extensive personal time in the hangar, engaged in what he called “reactor tuning.” Bursts of unmaneuverable speed that the Flecha displayed in subsequent exercises suggest that Alférez has installed a mechanism that allows him to shut off the suit’s governor, increasing power delivered to the thrusters and allowing evasive maneuvers beyond what the Zaku II is typically capable of. The possibility that this could damage the armor and frame of the suit or even, in extreme cases, lead to reactor detonation, explains why this modification was never submitted for approval. Alférez appears to be motivated by a belief that it is better to risk disintegration than allow his mobile suit to be contacted by enemy projectiles.
